Crohn’s Disease

Living with Crohn’s Disease can have both emotional and physical impacts on your life. There are times when you can carry on leading a full life, and when a flare up occurs, life can become very complex and challenging.

What is Crohn’s Disease?

Crohn’s Disease is a chronic condition that causes painful inflammation of the digestive system or gut. Symptoms vary from person to person, and can change over time. The most common are:

  • Abdominal pain and diarrhoea
  • Tiredness and fatigue
  • Feeling generally unwell
  • Mouth ulcers
  • Loss of appetite and weight loss
  • Anaemia

What causes it and can it be cured?

Despite a lot of research, there is still no known cause. However factors such as genetics, an abnormal reaction of the immune system to gut bacteria, and lifestyle factors can contribute.

There are a number of medical and surgical treatments available. Some sufferers find changing their diet also helps.
