Super Smoothie

Super Smoothie Recipes

A Smoothie can range from the dynamically healthy to the downright decadent and deserving of a junk food label (yes, really!).

This is the first in the series of dynamically healthy smoothies that you can make quickly and easily for you and your whole family.

Be sure to shop for all the ingredients first, to set your kitchen up as “Smoothie Central” before you start.

Get a really good, high-speed blender (Vita-Mix, Blendtec, Thermomix – something in that league), to make your smoothies velvety-smooth on the palate and to allow the full flavours to develop.  A very smooth mix also aids full digestion of the superfood ingredients.

Smoothie Recipe 1:  The Gold Standard

The Gold Standard Smoothie

The list of ingredients is just a suggestion and the quantities can vary according to taste, cost and availability.  Don’t be afraid to experiment, but try a small amount from a batch before you commit the whole blender-full to a new combination, just in case it doesn’t taste right to you, you won’t have wasted that entire batch.

Ingredients:   (serves 1 or 2)

½ banana (this will sweeten your smoothie nicely)

1 teaspoon of Acacia fibre powder

1 teaspoon of Agave Inulin

½ tin of organic coconut milk

1 tablespoon of hemp seeds (shelled)

1 tablespoon of sunflower seeds, macadamia nuts, cashew nuts or a tablespoon of nut butter (optional)

1 organic free-range egg yolk (omit for vegans or if you don’t trust raw eggs)

1 heaped teaspoon of Ghee (or use the Ghee + MCT oil combo)

1 tablespoon of MCT oil (if you haven’t used the combo above)

1 heaped teaspoon of Turmeric powder (or slices from a fresh root, lightly scraped)

1 teaspoon of organic vanilla extract (or vanilla essence, but not “Flavouring”)

Ice cubes

Water or coconut water to adjust the mixture

Blend all the ingredients, leaving the water or coconut water out; blend for a couple of minutes to make sure the mixture gets nice and smooth and velvety.

Add the water or coconut water slowly whilst still blending, so that you can achieve a nice consistency which will actually go up a straw, rather than needing a spoon to eat it with!

Taste and add a few drops more of Stevia liquid if you want it sweeter.

Best made and eaten/drunk freshly, but if made in the morning, this will refrigerate and keep for the rest of the day – but not much longer than that.  So make in the morning and snack on it all day or make it the night before and use it all for breakfast.

This smoothie recipe gives you vital high-quality essential fats and oils, high levels of vitamins A, D and E; it will nourish your body really well first thing in the morning, helping to stave off mid-morning hunger attacks.  This super smoothie should keep your body happy until lunchtime.
